Incorporating RockBlades Tools

After attending a Rock Tape course on how to use RockBlades (no sponsorship involved!), I am excited to announce that I will be acquiring these tools soon. I am eager to hear your feedback if you are interested in experiencing this innovative therapy.

So, what exactly are RockBlades?

The tools available, including Mallet, Mullet, and the Mohawk, are diverse in their shapes and sizes, making them ideal for assessing alterations in soft tissue. RockBlades represent a sophisticated approach to soft tissue manipulation known as Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM). They offer a distinctive form of tissue manipulation in contrast to manual techniques, providing a gentle option for addressing tender areas or regions in recovery.

Why use RockBlades?

As the demand for non-invasive and drug-free treatment options continues to rise, RockBlades have become an essential tool for practitioners looking to provide comprehensive care to their patients. With ongoing research and advancements in the field of soft tissue mobilisation, RockBlades are expected to remain at the forefront of manual therapy practices, helping individuals recover from injuries, improve mobility, and optimize their overall wellbeing.

I intend on utilising RockBlades in conjunction with manual massage therapy as a component of a comprehensive treatment regimen, specifically to:

  • Help improve muscle function

  • Help improve performance

  • Help to eliminate pain

History of RockBlades

RockBlades have a rich history that traces back to the ancient practice of Gua Sha in traditional Chinese medicine. Gua Sha involves scraping the skin with a tool to promote healing and blood circulation. This technique was later adapted and modernized by Dr. James Mally, a chiropractor and soft tissue specialist, who saw the potential benefits of incorporating instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) into his practice.

Dr. Mally's innovative approach led to the development of RockBlades, a set of tools designed to effectively address soft tissue restrictions, scar tissue, and fascial adhesions. RockBlades are crafted from high-quality stainless steel and feature different shapes and edges to target specific areas of the body with precision.

Over the years, RockBlades have gained popularity among healthcare professionals, including physical therapists, chiropractors, and athletic trainers, for their ability to enhance manual therapy techniques and improve patient outcomes. The versatility and effectiveness of RockBlades have made them a staple in many rehabilitation and sports performance settings.
